Note: A pregnancy usually lasts 38 weeks from conception, or 40 weeks from the start of your last menstrual period (LMP). If you are counting from the date of conception, just add two weeks to use this calendar. For example, if you conceived two weeks ago, you are in week 4 by the usual method.

The length of the developing baby is measured from the crown of the head to the bottom of the baby's rump, this is referred to as the CRL measurement

Week 31

  • Your baby is gaining weight quickly now, weighing between 3.1 and 3.5 pounds (1500-1600g) this week, nearly half the average birth weight
  • His crown-rump length is between 10.8 and 11.2 inches (275-280mm) and standing height ranges from 14.5 to 18 inches
  • Little feet are over two inches long now with visible toenails
  • Just around 2 calendar months left (9 weeks)!
  • Have you decided how long you are going to take for maternity leave?
  • The length of time allowed for maternity leave really varies from country to country, from 6 weeks to 2 years, some countries also pay a percentage of the mother's wages while she's away from work
  • If you are planning to return to work soon after the baby comes, do you have someone in mind to care for your baby? You may need to get on a waiting list at a daycare center.
  • If you are planning to stay home and will have only one income, it's a good idea to establish a budget and start following it, setting aside any money saved for emergency spending after the baby comes

Week 32

  • Your baby weighs almost 4 pounds this week (1700-1800g)
  • Crown-rump length is 11.2 to 11.6 inches (280-290mm) and the standing height is 15 to 18.9 inches (375-420mm)
  • Your little one is filling out, the arms and legs have a chubby appearance
  • Baby's pupils will react to light
  • If it's a boy, the testes have started to descend into the scrotum
  • With less than two calendar months to go you may be experiencing some water retention
  • Many women remove their rings before their fingers get too swollen and may purchase an inexpensive band in a larger size to wear until the baby comes
  • Are you planning on breastfeeding or formula feeding your baby?
  • If you are planning on breastfeeding, you may want to get in contact with your local La Leche League or another breastfeeding support group, they can really help with the first weeks
  • Check out these other MommyLinks pages for more information about breastfeeding and bottle feeding

Week 33

  • Baby weighs between 4 and 4.4 pounds this week (1900-2000g)
  • From crown to rump he measures between 11.6 and 12 inches (290-300mm) and standing height is from 15.5 to 19.4 inches (394-430mm)
  • Your baby is going to be gaining weight rapidly, up to 8oz (227g) a week for the next while, so eat well, and remember to take your prenatal vitamin
  • Your little one is probably still squirming and tumbling around in your belly, but her movements will start to get a little smaller as she gets bigger and your womb gets more crowded
  • Only 7 weeks to go!! Enjoy these last weeks of anticipation. Make time for date nights with your guy. Sleep in late on the weekends. Life is going to change soon!
  • Have you started prenatal classes? Do you have a birth plan? If you'd like to create a birth plan online, check out the links on the MommyLinks Birth Methods page

Week 34

  • Your little one weighs in betwen 4.4 and 4.7 pounds (1900-2250g) this week
  • Crown to rump length is 12 to 12.8 inches (300-320mm) and standing height is 16 to 19.8 inches (400-440mm)
  • Baby's skin is pink and smooth
  • Little fingernails reach to the finger tips
  • The top of your uterus is around 5.6 inches (14cm) above your belly button, or 13.6 inches (34cm) from the top of your pelvis
  • Depending on your height and how you are carrying your baby, your uterus may be all the way up to your ribcage
  • As your stomach and other internal organs get pushed out of the way, you may notice more heartburn or constipation. Eating small meals, drinking enough water, and walking may help. If you need to treat the heartburn or constipation, check with your doctor. He or she may have already given you a list of medications that are considered safe for use during pregnancy that you can refer to.
